Bio
Gloria Pham is a PhD Candidate in Literary Studies. Her dissertation “Refugee Temporalities: Southeast Asian American Literature and the Politics of Time” explores how nation-states dictate the temporality of refugee experience through law, policy, and media. The project further interrogates how refugee writers and artists reject this linear, progressive timeline to citizenship in favor of more liberatory possibilities. In response to a global refugee regime structured by what Liisa Malkki calls “the national order of things,” this dissertation asks: what alternate temporal orders might refugees imagine for themselves?
