I have been teaching English at UW–Madison since 2000 and currently serve as Director of the Program in Global English Language Learning and Teaching. My primary areas of focus and research include language pedagogy, AI and writing, and second language acquisition. I am also actively involved in teacher training, working with international teaching assistants and UW students pursuing the TESOL certificate. In 2023, I launched the Afghan English Language Tutoring Project in partnership with the global NGO Educate Girls Now. Through this initiative, UW students tutor Afghan girls and young women who have been denied access to formal education. In addition, I have contributed to curriculum design and teacher training collaborations between UW–Madison and the Universidad Tecnológica in Uruguay, the Fulbright-Hays Program, the National African Languages Resource Center, and the Gyeonggi-do Institute for Foreign Language Education in Korea.

When I am not teaching, I pursue my other passion: music. I regularly perform, record, and tour with the Chicago-based blues group the Cash Box Kings.
