Careers and Internships Advising

While L&S Career Services is an excellent resource for students to access career guidance, training, and networking opportunities, sometimes you want to talk to somebody who understands in-depth the skills you have developed and the challenges you face specifically as an English major. Our career and internship coordinator, Sunny Chan, welcomes conversations with majors and recent graduates about what careers you can pursue with an English degree and what steps you need to take to get there. Sunny Chan is a current Ph.D. student in English Literary Studies and has past experience in career development with the Federal Government of Canada. She is available for conversations about possible career paths, how to search for jobs and internships, résumés and cover letters, interview skills, networking, seeking out alumni mentors, and more.

Scheduling a Career Advising Appointment

Enrolled English majors and recent graduates can schedule a 20-minute advising appointment using WiscCal. If you need more time, you may schedule two appointments in a row. If you need to talk and do not find any open appointments, please email Sunny Chan to find another time. Please remember to cancel your appointment if you can no longer make it and do not miss appointments without advance notice.

FALL 2016 ADVISING HOURS:

Monday 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday 9:00 - 12 noon

For your appointment, please bring a written or electronic document that lists what questions you would like to ask, what your goal for the appointment is, and what you have done so far in terms of preparing for a career or internship. It's okay to be honest and say you don't know, or haven't started yet! Writing it down is not a test, it is simply an exercise to help us focus and have the most productive meeting possible, as well as not forget anything you want to talk about.
