🧠 Psychoanalysis for Diabetics: Freud in the Popular Jewish Press

This event has passed.

Memorial Union, Old Madison Room
@ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Join Naomi Seidman (University of Toronto) for a lecture exploring the “Freud craze” in the Yiddish press of the interwar period. Although Karl Kraus famously quipped that psychoanalysis was “the disease of assimilated Jews,” Eastern European Jewish readers were deeply fascinated by Freud—following his life, attending lectures, and eagerly consuming articles about “the most famous Jew in the world.” This talk traces how psychoanalysis circulated in popular Jewish media and what it reveals about cultural identity, modernity, and intellectual curiosity.
