English 201
Welcome to English 201!
English 201 is an intermediate composition course open to students at the sophomore level and above which fulfills the Comm B requirement. Each section is capped at 19 students and is taught by experienced graduate students from the English Department who are supervised by a faculty director and assistant director.
The course provides practice in persuasive writing in various modes, styles, and genres; develops an understanding of the different contexts of writing, both scholarly and public; provides opportunities for exploring the relation between writing and speaking; and provides critical tools for the rhetorical analysis of expository prose.
English 201 is a great course for students who want to develop the sophistication of their writing, who are interested in the world beyond their major or discipline, and who are interested in learning how writing and argument can transform what people know and how they engage in the intellectual and public sphere.
